How's this short story so far?

You use "she" too much, I know when you are writing in 3rd person it's kind of hard to avoid, but you should really work on finding other words. I'm not completely sure what to think of this, because I have no idea where it is going. I know you want to add some 'intellectual' words, but "downcast" doesn't fit.
