How can I untangle my retractable car stereo cable?

I bought one of those retractable cable things for my iPod for when I'm in the car. My little brother got into it last night, and now my cable is completely tangled. The cable spills out the side of the retracter thing, and the plugs will not move in either direction. What the hell did he do to it, and how can I fix it??
