Breaking a lease if unsafe area?

You can break the lease but would have to pay whatever penalties are associated with the termination. The landlord can set certain security standards to keep tenants safe. but is not responsible for preventing all crime. Some would say it's a tenant's responsibility to check out a neighborhood out before moving in, but bad things happen in "nice" areas too.
