How do I untangle yarn?

I have a full 1.4km hank of laceweight yarn. I opened it, found the ends, and began to roll it into a ball. Not very far in, the yarn broke, and now I'm left with a tangled mess and I'm unable to find my ends. How do I untangle such a long hank of yarn, and how do I find the ends of the yarn?
